Memory Keeping in a Travelers Notebook + cute photography themed stickers
When I was a scrapbooker, I would spend a LOT of time creating the perfect scrapbook layout. I laboured over whether I needed more embellishments or did I keep the white space for maximum oomph. Did I have one focus photo or lots? And don’t even get me started on choosing the right paper…I’d be lost down that rabbit hole for hours.
Fast forward a few years and my memory keeping has been pared down to a super simplistic form. I record memories in my Travelers Notebook journal and if I want to do a page it’s simple and minimal design. I guess my focus has changed to be less about design and more about recording the moment. And I’m fine with that. I still love beautiful scrapbook page, but the motivation to spend a long time on a page has well and truly gone.
Now my go to resources for memory keeping are my DIY Cahier sized grid notebook, printable or printed sticker, pens and markers. Sometimes I’ll add a patterned paper or washi tape (my secret addiction) but this stash is minuscule compared to my scrapping days where I had a filing system for my decorative papers. Yes I was that girl.
One thing I love about incorporating my memory keeping journal into my Travelers Notebook is that I get to enjoy those memories every day. Sometimes I will be flicking through my Notebook and a layout will catch my eye and make me smile. That is the sweetest thing!
At the moment I do not create layouts in chronological order or with any methodology on how I choose a photo. I simply pick a photo that I like and create. I’m all for doing things when the mood and inspiration strikes rather than steadfastly sticking to a schedule (a fast track to boredom and burn out for me) especially when I have thousands of photographs. Something is definitely better than nothing. And when my kids look at a page, they have NEVER said “oh I wish you had done XYZ photos instead”. They are just happy to be starring in my journal.
So how do you record your memories? Are you a scrapbooker? Have you adopted a Travelers Journal? I’d love to hear. Leave a comment.
