How to create Bullet Journal Pages you love…or at least like!
While I’m an avid doodler, I prefer to create minimal journal pages and then add more doodles and embellishments when the mood strikes or I have time. I find that I’m usually happier with how these pages turn out because by the time I return to the page to play with it, there is less pressure to create a perfect page.
I don’t know about you but if I set out to create a super awesome cover page for a new notebook it will NOT turn out how I wanted and will take a looooong time. I procrastinate over different designs, pencil in things…rub them out…choose the wrong pen size…use a dodgy pen that runs out half way through drawing a circle…mess up how the design is centred…blah blah blah. And if it’s really bad, I’ll rip it out…yeah I know…a journaling no no.
So rather than commit to a full design (on any type of layout), I do enough to be practical but with space to add further decorations. Even if it’s just the name of the month (for a monthly notebook or page), that is enough. In a few days, I’ll come back to it and add some doodling. This usually occurs when I’m waiting for the kids at school…one of my most productive times to doodle. When I’ve finished the page I find that I either love it or am happy enough to leave it be.
If you are struggling with your layouts, try the K.I.S.S principle. Keep it simple and straightforward. Don’t go for something complicated. Start with a simple design and dress it up later. It’s far better to get it done, than perfect. And it’s definitely better to enjoy the process than be stressed by it.
Here’s to happy journaling and simple pages!
